CYLINDER HEAD REBUILDING
The following is a description of what goes into rebuilding a set of heads before we will call them Gessler Heads:
- Completely disassemble and remove water jacket core plugs.
- Castings are degreased and shot blasted clean.
- Visual inspection and Magnaflux detection for cracks. Cracked or damaged heads are discarded.
- Valve guides are bored using a positive K-Line fixture to insure concentricity to valve seat. A thin wall bronze insert is fitted and final sized using a Sunnen hone.
- If needed, hardened exhaust seats are installed concentric to valve guide.
- A 3, 4 or 5 angle valve seat is machined on our Sunnen VGS-20, with proper diameters, angles and seat width for your application.
- Valves are refaced to insure concentricity.
- If applicable, valve guide bosses are machined for increased valve lift clearance, dual springs and small diameter positive valve seal.
- The deck surface is milled straight and true using our CBN/PCD surfacer.
- Combustion chamber edges are chamfered, to reduce hotspots.
- Head castings and parts are inspected and cleaned for assembly.
- Each valve spring is checked for proper pressure, installed height is measured. Springs are shimmed individually to insure proper spring pressure for your camshaft requirements.
- Valve guides are pre-lubricated for initial startup and quality positive valve seals installed.
- New water jacket core plugs are installed.
Gessler Head Porting uses the Sunnen VGS-20 head machining center to assures proper valve seat sizes and angles.
Consistent valve seat angles, dimensions, height and concentricity.
